MONTEVIDEO, March 10 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) – German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle expressed his country’s interest to strengthen bilateral relations with Uruguay in fields including economic cooperation and academic exchanges.
Westerwelle said this when he paid a short state visit to Uruguay accompanied by a delegation of business people and legislators and was received today at the Executive Tower by President Jose Mujica.
“It has been a pleasure to meet with President Mujica and it showed the interest of the two countries in strengthening relations”, he said at a press conference.
His Uruguayan counterpart Luis Almagro described Germany as a main partner within the European Union (EU) and a main importer of Uruguayan goods.
Almagro also highlighted that the two countries’ shared views on international issues, including UE-MERCOSUR cooperation, projects and negotiations.
Westerwelle is on a South American tour which includes Chile, Argentina and Brazil. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
