THE East Asia Regional Media Programme organised by the New Zealand Government, co-sponsored by the Euripean Union and support from the Government of Indonesia, kicked start on March 9 and will be held until today, March 11 at The Asean Secretariat Jakarta, Indonesia.

The three-day seminar-based programme discussed different views and cultures which apply to everyday domestic reporting.
How a journalist carries out his/her job can either create tensions between people of different cultures or can help reduce them.
The guest speaker for the event are Bambang Harymurti, President of Indonesian Press Council; Rahim Ullah Yousufzai, Resident Editor of The News Peshawar Pakistan; Waleed Aly, Commentator and Academic of Monash University Australia; Carol Arguillas, Editor of Mindanews Philippines; Supara Janchitfah from the Bangkok Post; Dr Anoj Joshi, Deputy Editor of Mail Today and Alan Samson, lecturer from Massey University of Journalism, New Zealand.
During the seminar, various keys topics were discussed such as culture, conflict and co-existance, reporting on war, terrorism and civil unrest, local case studies, post-conflict societies, regional journalism education and coordination, media and democracy, and real-time coverage of terrorism.
The objectives are to provide participants with the opportunity to come together with experienced facilitors and a group of respected presenters, journalists and media executives, academics, experts and public figures, mostly from the East Asia region, to broaden journalists’ range of professional contacts, in these crucial areas, with colleagues across the East Asia region.
