St John’s ‘grand slam’ in public examinations

Cedrina Clark Mar 11th, 2010 .

It was a moment of pride and honour for St John’s school for garnering a 100 per cent success rate in all of last year’s public examinations. The PSR 2009 examinations saw two students achieve five A’s.
The PSR examinations in general saw a 80.9 per cent rate achieved by students that obtained an A, B or C grade. The Malay Language was the subject that saw the highest mark with 97.7 per cent, followed by English with 93.2 per cent.

For the PMB examinations, results indicated a significant improvement in five subject areas – Malay Language, English Language, Science, Geography and Computer Studies where all students achieved 100 per cent credit.

The BGCE ‘O’ level results saw six students achieving nine ‘O’ levels with another eight students achieving eight ‘O’ levels.

This achievement has made St John’s School the only learning institution to achieve a 100 per cent passing rate so far based on recently released results by the Examination Department of the Ministry of Education.

According to the principal, Mr Koh Hong Puah, the achievement can be attributed to a combination of factors such as capable teachers, special programmes assisting students in preparing for examinations, good discipline and support from parents.

He further added that St John’s School will move forward in making the school more conducive to learning.

He plans to strengthen the basic foundations of a child’s learning process by reviewing the Kindergarten and Lower Primary Level programmes. He also mentioned that by 2011, the school will have its multi-purpose hall allowing students to pursue more co-curricular activites.

He extended his appreciation to all the teachers who worked very hard, parents who gave their full co-operation, and the Board of Governors, for relentlessly working for the betterment of the school.
