Donation for Brunei SMARTER

The Brunei Autism Centre for Adults (BACA) under Brunei Smarter, at No 18, Taman Warisan, Seri Nara, Kg Jerudong, yesterday received a $5,000 donation from Butra Heidelberg Sdn Bhd, a local manufacturer of cement.
The parent-run centre depends largely on donations for its daily operations to serve individuals with an autistic condition.

The donation was presented by the company’s Sales and Marketing Manager Clement Lai to the president of Smarter Brunei, Malai Haji Abdullah bin Malai Haji Othman.

Also present was the company’s Public Relations Manager Julia Lim.

Malai Haji Abdullah highlighted the success and achievements of the Smarter at the national and international levels.

He said Smarter Brunei was established on Sept 9, 2001 as a family support group.

It is an association run by parents and family members exclusively for people with autism.

There are 88 students studying at the three centres: 58 in the ASD Centre- Sengkurong HQ; 14 in ASD Centre in Kuala Belait; and 21 in the Brunei Autism Centre for Adults (BACA). There are 23 teachers teaching at these three centres.

Smarter also operates a shop in the capital to sell unused items and goods and furniture donated by the general public.

Brunei Autism Centre for Adults (BACA) is an education, development and growth centre for adolescents and adults with autism whose age ranges from 13 and above.

The vision and mission is to have an autism-friendly society that enables our children to adapt and live independently with dignity.
