HIS Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan, speaking at the opening of the sixth session of LegCo meeting, yesterday urged State Legislative Council (LegCo) members to engage only in discussions that will benefit the population and the country, and issues raised during the meeting must be supported by studies or facts.

“In every issue discussed, you must really consider the benefit of the people and the country, (and) not issues that are not important. It must be taken seriously, not flippantly,” His Majesty said.

“Any statement or view must be supported by research or facts so that discussions are well-directed, not chaotic or sidetracked from the aim.”

In his titah delivered at the Dewan Majlis in Berakas, the monarch urged the LegCo members to be more sensitive to problems faced by the citizens and residents of the country, including those living in the interior areas, and said that these problems should be brought up during the proceedings.

“This meeting will become a channel for the members to convey and debate their views (and) is seen as a way to induce development and progress,” His Majesty said.

“From here, voices will be heard and reach out to the authorities in government. Everything will be assessed and scrutinised to see if it is suitable to become the basis for national plans.”

“The authorities within government thus are obligated to approach the citizens and residents with useful information so that they can together recognise the importance of the nation to plan and develop for progress,” His Majesty added.
