MOSCOW, March 12 (NNN-KUNA) — Russia has asked Israel to draw back on its decision to build 1,600 new settlement units in East Jerusalem.
Israel’s action is unacceptable, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement Thursday, adding that such actions stand as violation against commonly recognized international laws, as it affects the negotiation process.
The ministry urged Israel to refrain from taking sole actions at this sensitive time when the international community is stepping up efforts to bring the Middle East to a lasting peace deal.
The statement also said building the units would jeopardize indirect negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis, which stopped for a long period.
