NEW DELHI, March 12 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Visiting Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin Friday said that terror outfits operating in Pakistan and Afghanistan are a worry to the region and the world as a whole.
“As far as terror groups in Afghanistan and Pakistan are concerned, it is a matter of worry for the entire region and in fact, the whole world,” Putin said during an interactive video- conferencing session with Indian businessmen from New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bangalore.
“Parts of Afghanistan’s soil continues to be used by terror groups. We understand the concerns of India regarding the activities of banned outfits in Pakistan. However, lets be realistic, Pakistan has taken action against those outfits in the last few months. We hope addressing the problem (of terror groups) will be in the best interest of Pakistan. We need to support those efforts,” he said.
Assuring India of support in the nuclear energy sector through building of reactors and supply of fuel, Putin said India had expressed keenness in his country’s help for disposal of nuclear waste too.
“Our (India and Russia) cooperation is in construction and building of nuclear reactors, supply of nuclear fuel and India has expressed interest for help in disposal of nuclear waste,” he said.
Regarding safety of the reactors, with the Chernobyl experience during the Soviet era behind it, he said upgrading and increasing the safety features in nuclear power plants were the key elements of Russian technology that it would provide India. — NNN-AGENCIES![]()
