Emphasising His Majesty’s call for improved management of these processes, the entrepreneur added, “His Majesty’s titah is yet another reminder for those who are responsible for implementing these projects to be a bit more critical and to plan properly so these unnecessary problems can be eliminated.”
As an example of these “unnecessary problems”, YB Dato Paduka Haji Idris cited the selection of the project sites. “Sometimes, they choose the wrong site or the land has not been gazetted for instance,” he said, while noting that the process of gazetting is actually merely administrative and not difficult to resolve.
Referring to-the ‘conditions of the soil on some of these project sites and its vulnerability to flooding, he said, “Sometimes they don’t actually study the site and simply build something over it and only then discover that the site is actually not suitable”.
Meanwhile, Yang Berhormat Hj Sulaiman Hj Ahad, Legislative Council member and district representative for Temburong, was particularly keen with the royal. “We must make more urgent moves to overcome any delays or shortcomings in achieving our goals, for delays and shortcomings bear terrible consequences to our country,” he said.
“In the context of Temburong’s many developments, from the economy, the community, human resources and so on, this especially rings true so we do not fall further behind as compared to the development of other districts,” he added.
His Majesty’s titah also received similar commendations from members of the public who lauded the monarch’s firm take on some of the failures and deficiencies of the government.
“The titah serves as another reminder not only to LegCo members but the government machinery as well,” said 44-year-old civil servant, Zulfadli Hisham, adding, “Our actions and the implementation of decisions should be quick and efficient.”
He further emphasised, “The issues raised must also cover every fabric of society and even the rural areas. This is important to prevent the disparities of development between one area and another.”
Meanwhile, Haji Alimin, a retired education officer, is one of many members of the public who noticed the recurring concerns over religious education. “It is time that the concerned authority implement and make the decision over what has been lacking all this time,” said the 58-year-old.
HIS Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, during the opening ceremony of the sixth Legislative Council Meeting yesterday, once again ordered his government to provide the people with answers as to the lack of urgency on the nation’s development.
Speaking to some of the Legislative Council members yesterday about their comments on the monarch’s royal address, Yang Berhormat Dato Paduka Haji Idris bin Haji Abas, Legislative Council member, founder and CEO of Arkitek Idris, said that the issue of project implementation delays is nothing new.
Regarding constant delays in some aspects of development, the council member said, “If we had learned from our mistakes we wouldn’t be repeating it again and again, and the problem wouldn’t be prolonged.”
