AMMAN, March 13 (NNN-KUNA) — Standing committees of the Euro-Med parliamentary assembly began meetings in Amman on Friday a day before the assembly meeting, to feature participation of 42 countries.
Members of the Women Rights committee discussed how to address all forms of violence against women, and determine causes of violence, and legal and legislative measures to tackle the matter.
The Committee of energy, environment and water discussed means to keeping clean environment, and how to explore alternative water and energy resources.
Other committees are discussing social issues, education, economic and financial cooperation, security, human rights and how to address regional conflicts.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Euro-Med Parliamentary Assembly Abdulhadi Al-Majali said tomorrow’s first session would be dedicated to discuss the Palestinian cause and the Arab-Israeli conflict.
Speaking to reporters today, Al-Majali welcomed the European parliament’s support to the Goldstone report regarding the Israeli war crimes in Gaza Strip.
He said among official participating in the assembly meetings would be Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa, US Middle East envoy George Mitchell, French foreign minister Bernard Kouchner, Egyptian Assistant foreign minister for parliamentary affairs Mohammad Mustafa Kamal and Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean Ahmad Musaadeh. — NNN-KUNA
