Singapore, host to thousands of multinational corporations, is already a major travel draw because of its reputation for safety, cleanliness and efficiency, as well as its man-made attractions such as top-end shopping malls.
Its latest attraction, Resorts World Sentosa (RWS), is slated to be one of the world’s most exciting destinations, with a myriad of fun-filled offerings for the entire family.

Built at a reported cost of US$4.93 billion by Malaysia’s Genting Group, RWS launched four premium hotels and a shopping and dining strip in January, followed by the casino and a convention centre last month.
Soon to lead the line-up of attractions at RWS is Universal Studios Singapore (USS), scheduled to throw open its doors to the public on March 18.
Southeast Asia’s first Universal Studios will boast a number of world’s firsts: it will be home to the world’s biggest single collection of Dream Works animation attractions, the world’s first Madagascar ride, the world’s first Sci-Fi theme park zone, and a pair of the world’s tallest dueling roller coasters.
The park will also showcase thrill rides, Egyptian pyramids, a castle from the Shrek movies, live shows by the infamous Universal Monsters, and countless celebrity look-a-likes crowding its streets and pathways as well as a New York-themed attraction.
There will also be entertainment along the retail, dining and entertainment precinct of Festive Walk and three public amphitheatres: The Show Place, The Bull Ring, and Imagineering, a theatre which provides a magical dreamlike show with water, light and visual effects.
A great deal of attention has been given to the development of this five-star resort absolutely unique in both its environment and the experience it offers.
I found that out when I visited Sentosa Island during my stopover in Singapore over the weekend.
Special care has also been taken to express the tropical nature of the place, in preserving the views of the existing forested ridge and the waterfront.
Most of the major attractions are designed with canopies, covered walkways and landscaped features to enhance visitors’ experience in all-weather conditions.
There is also attractive night lighting to highlight the architectural features of the individual buildings and character of different zones.
A model of the world-famous rotating Universal globe is a favourite spot for most tourists. Over five metres in height and weighing 4.5 tonnes, this massive structure is indeed an impressive sight.
Ambient music and special LED lighting provide a calm and ethereal atmosphere as you take the escalator to the lower level of the resort.
RWS opened four new hotels in January, each designed with a distinct theme, making the resort suitable for both leisure and business visitors
For the well-heeled shoppers, a whole alley of designer boutiques and luxury goods shops can be found at Crockfords Tower.
The Hard Rock Hotel is great for all lovers of music and Hotel Michael offers superb luxury in a great location and is a relaxing option.
RWS is one of two casino-resorts awarded in 2006. The casino is located directly underneath the Maxim’s Residences, an all-suite hotel which offers premium guest services, gaming rooms, lounges, and suites fit for a king.
A slender-legged elephant sculpture named ‘Space Elephant’ by Salvador Dali is the focal point at the Festive Hotel, a family-oriented hotel next to Crockfords Tower and Festive Walk.
