KUWAIT, March 14 (NNN-KUNA) — The death of Dr. Fouad Zakria is an Arab and world culture shock as he was one of the most enlightened and open-minded thinkers in the Arab world, editor-of-Chief of Al-Arabi magazine Dr. Suleiman Al-Askari said here Saturday.
Dr. Al-Askari added in a special statement to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that Dr. Fouad Zakria introduced a lot of philosophical and intellectual achievements to the Arab philosophical thought and that “we here in Kuwait take pride in the fact that he lived amidst us as a philosophy professor at Kuwait University where he established a distinctive philosophical and educational approach.” He pointed out that Dr. Zakria was the deviser of the Kuwaiti series of World of Knowledge that became one of the most important Arab intellectual series of books through its introducing of the achievements of the Arab and western thought.
Then, Dr. Zakriah became the series consultant in what included selection of the books to be published, the revision of the translated materials and following up books till they come out in the best way whether on content or layout.
Al-Askari went on to say that late Dr. Zakriah presented to the Arab library as a whole a big number authored and translated books that enriched the philosophical and intellectual Arab thought and laid the bases of an intellectual project that epitomizes the value of mind and rationality.
He concluded by saying that some of Dr. Zakriah’s books highlighted the triviality of the notions adopted by the reactionary and backward forces in the Arab societies, especially his two books entitled “Reality and Illusion in the Modern Islamic Movement” and “The Islamic Awakening in light of Mind” in which he voiced his bold opinions and stances. ?
