HAVANA, March 14 (NNN-Prensa Latina): The opening of the Embassy of El Salvador in Cuba will help strengthen the ties of brotherhood and friendship among both peoples, said El Salvadorian foreign minister, Hugo Martinez.
Following an official opening by the first lady, Vanda Pignato in the presence of Cuban Vice President Esteban Lazo, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez,, Martinez described as historic the establishment of an embassy in Havana.
Cuba and El Salvador were tied with history, despite small ideological y differences,Martinez said.
He stressed that the first step in foreign policy by President Salvador, Mauricio Funes, was to restore diplomatic ties with the Greater Antilles.
“We have to learn a lot from Cuba, have a long way to go in our relations,” he said Martinez.
Bilateral relations between both nations will help strengthen the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States that seeks unity of these two regions, the foreign minister emphasized.
Martinez remembered the gesture of Cuba which benefited many Salvadorans who were injured during the war.
He called upon the international community to build a new international order based on respect for national sovereignty and self-determination of peoples.
