Twenty-seven participants from various government departments took part in a workshop jointly organised by Public Service Department (JPA) and the Institute for Leadership, Innovation and Advancement (ILIA). The workshop began on March 1 and will end in May 20.
Officiating the 14th Executive Development Programme for the senior government officers yesterday was the Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office, Awg Sa Bali Abas at the Senate Room, Chancellor Hall of UBD.
The event began with the recital of surah al-fatihah followed by a welcoming address by the Director General of Public Service, Awg Hj Ibrahim Hj Hassan.
In his address, the Director General pointed out the selection criteria of the programme, where participants are selected thorugh an evaluation process and systematic consideration. The Public Service Department (JPA) realise the need to provide more space so that more high potential officers are given the opportunity to take part in the programme.
He also added that the programme are conducted full-time and the attendance of all the participants are compulsory. In the programme, participants are encouraged to contribute new and effective ideas to overcome the challenges faced by the government these days.
With the cooperation of JPA and ILIA as well as the strong support from the Prime Minister’s Office, they have introduced a more competitive syllabus which includes instilling of religious values (Tasawwur) and joining the community components apart from ensuring the participants to be active in lecture discussions. It will also stress on workshop-style learning and the use of many case studies.
Designed to incorporate many new elements relevant to the objectives of the new phase of the training programme at ILIA, the training programme is intended for senior level executives in the public service, which will be facilitated and taught by the selected top UBD faculty, and international experts.
The 14th EDPSGO is set with 10 main training focus namely to strengthen leadership performance of the proven leader participants, establish a leadership pipeline for succession planning, nurture transformational leadership among the proven leaders to serve as role models and inject fresh, innovative and creative methodologies into this transformation process.
It is also to share knowledge with participants pertaining to current real-life approaches and practices of public sector management, policy and governance to improve the participants’ understanding of global and local environments and governments.
Other objectives include providing a platform for technical, conceptual, cognitive, personal, social skills upgrade and improvement among participants, to increase the participants’ awareness of the tools and techniques for transforming their organisation through modern governance, strategic management and innovation within a paradigmatic and evolving world; enhance the participants’ worldview and perspectives of the participants to be global leaders and citizens and provide a real-life experience of community development in a less developed nation and understand the different dimensions of governance systems in countries.
