NEW DELHI, March 14 (NNN-Bernama) — With about 200 days to go for the 19th Commonwealth Games in Delhi, Malaysia is convinced that India will complete the unfinished infrastructure facilities ahead of the mega sports event.
Malaysia’s Chef de Mission for the games, Abdul Halil Abdul Mutalif, said “a lot of work still has to be done” before the games, slated for Oct 3 to 14.
“Several venues and the games village itself are yet to be completed. Only a few have been completed, like the hockey and archery stadiums.
“But I am confident they can finish them on time because they have enough resources and manpower. Maybe, India can match up to all (past) international games or even do better than the previous games,” Abdul Halil told Bernama.
He was among the 71 representatives from Commonwealth countries who attended the chefs de mission seminar for the Delhi games in the capital, where the organisers briefed visiting delegations on the current level of preparations and security outlay.
When asked whether Malaysian observers were satisfied with the level of security preparations, he replied that India was giving top priority to security to ensure that the games went on smoothly.
“Because of the security conditions in Delhi, India is doing its level best and taking extra precautions to ensure the safety of all athletes and officers. Security is in good hands,” he said.
About 170 athletes are expected to take part in the Commonwealth Games later this year, where Malaysia is targeting to win at least 10 medals.
