A local man, the head of Iqra, was convicted on five charges of outraging the modesty of two women by the Bandar Magistrate’s Court, yesterday. The defendant will be given the chance to voice out his mitigations to the court before sentencing on the same day on March 18.
Hj Mashud bin Hj Damit, 58, also the first Brunei Qari (Quran reading) champion in 1977 at the International Quran Reading Competition, committed the offences at the Iqra Primary School in Kampong Manggis I, Jalan Muara on five different occasions in 2005 and 2006 on two different women teachers at the same school.

The defendant was earlier released on bail during the trial, but was yesterday remanded upon conviction after his bail release was revoked.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Pg Jasmine Pg Hj Bahrin prosecuted the case.
