Twenty Mercedes Benz owners displayed their vintage car collection at the Serasa Beach yesterday.
The gathering was jointly organised by Dream Charter, Sailing in Brunei and Brunei Mercedes Owner Group (BMOG) in conjunction with the 26th National Day celebration.
Among the aims of the gathering was to foster closer ties amongst Mercedes Benz owners and their families in Brunei.
The guest of honour at the event was the first Bruneian woman to go the South Pole, Dk Najibah Eradah PAM Al-Sufri who was overjoyed to see the collection of vintage cars.
According to the Acting Chairman of BMOG, Haji Ismawi Haji Munir, the idea of forming the group started with four close relatives on May 30, 2009.
He said, “We started with just four members and began recruiting new members in the Belait District. We promoted the group by joining various events, including the National Day celebration where we first held our gathering.”
He said BMOG is currently awaiting approval from the relevant government agencies to be registered as a legitimate group.
Currently, BMOG has 28 members and is still looking for Mercedes Benz enthusiasts in Brunei.
“We invite all to come and join our group. Today, four new members joined our group. All you need to do is show up with your Mercedes Benz car and register with BMOG,” he added.
The gathering concluded with a complimentary sailing trip for all BMOG members.
