Rising Japanese tennis star, Watanuki Keisuke won his maiden trophy in the Junior ITF circuit when he defeated Kawachi Kazuma in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1, in the final of the boy’s singles event of the 41st Brunei ITF Junior Circuit yesterday at the Brunei Darussalam National Tennis Centre.
The victory was even sweeter for the 16-year-old because Kawachi Kazuma and his teammate Moritani Soichiro had defeated Watanuki and his partner Saito Takashi 6-3,6-3 in the final on Saturday.
Watanuki Keisuke said ” I felt happy. It’s my first win. I was playing well today and I hit the ball well. My opponent also did well but today is just not his day.”
Looking up at Roger Federer as his idol, Watanuki Keisuke wants to turn pro and break into the 100 rankings in a few more years.
In the singles girl’s category, Vaidya Kanika emerged as the champion after beating Naito Hitomi in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.
In the girl’s double event, Naito Hitomi and Ogata Hains took home the winner’s trophy when they beat Darlina Voni and Dong Tracy 7-5, 6-2 in the final.
