The case in which four officers are alleged to have caused grievous hurt leading to the death to a detainee saw the first day of its trial yesterday.
The first witness was a fellow detainee of the deceased, who was taken into custody as an alleged co-perpetrator to the offence.
Defendants Inspector Hj Azwan Dato Paduka Seri Hj Abdul Rahman, L/Cpl 3567 Sofian Jumat, PC 4482 Andrew Anak Adin and PC 4488 Pg Asmanuddin Pg Hj Md Said are currently out on bail.
All defendants are facing charges of causing the death of 45-year-old Muslim convert Abdul Rahim Abdullah @ Tan Tong Hock sometime between 8.08 pm and 9.05 pm on January 22 last year at the CID room of the Sengkurong Police Station.

It carries a maximum penalty of 10 years’ jail and whipping if found guilty.
Meanwhile, PC 4488 Pg Asmanuddin, who is charged alternatively to voluntarily causing hurt to the same man by slapping him in the face, is facing an imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years and a fine.
