LUSAKA, March 16 (NNN-ZANIS) — President Rupiah Banda of Zambia has returned here after making a flying visit to Malawi where he held urgent consultative talks with his
Malawian counterpart, Bingu Wa Mutharika.
The President, who left for malawi Monday morning, returned here in the evening and was welcomed home by Home Affairs (Interior) Minister Lameck Mangani, Information and Broadcasting Minister Lt Gen Ronnie Shikapwasha and other government officials.
President Banda, who is the current chairman of the International Conference on the
Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), said on his return that he had a very successful meeting with President Wa Mutharika, who is the current chairman of the African Union (AU).
President Banda said he held talks with Dr Wa Mutharika regarding projects in Malawi being undertaken by the Chinese, adding that the projects would also be of benefit to Zambia.
The president was accompanied on his trip to Malawi by Minister of Foreign Affairs Kabinga Pande and his Special Assistant for Press and Public Relations, Dickson Jere, and other government officials. — NNN-ZANIS
