RAMALLAH, March 17 (KUNA) — Israeli police has decided to maintain its personnel deployed in Jerusalem on a state of alert until Sunday, and thousands of police personnel have been deployed around the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Radio Israel quoted military sources as saying Wednesday that more personnel would be deployed around Jerusalem after clashes erupted between Israeli forces and Palestinians Tuesday.
Israeli forces were put on alert in Jerusalem on Friday to prevent the eruption of clashes with Palestinians before the inauguration of a synagogue on Tuesday. The clashes took place even amidst heavy security measures.
The occupied Palestinian territories have been under a full military clampdown since Thursday evening, the first such action to be taken in the past two years without the advent of a Jewish holiday.
