The Block M consortium remains committed to acquire “all remaining data” for its 3D seismic survey, which will be used for the exploration of oil and gas.
Brunei National Petroleum Company (PetroleumBRUNEI) manages and regulates Block M, which covers an area of 3,011 square kilometres onshore in Belait District and part of Tutong District.
Work is due to begin soon on the construction of a drilling site in Labi. Once this is done, a drilling rig will be moved onto the site and the drilling of the ‘Mawar 1′ well should begin by the middle of June 2010.
Two wells – the ‘Mawar 1′ (1,206 metres in depth) and the ‘Mawar 2′, a high angle well (1,700 metres in depth) – will be built in the mukim, where oil and gas exploration activities grinded to a halt in 1987.
These were revealed during a briefing for senior government officials, which was organised by Petroleum Brunei and its operator, TAP Energy, at the Belait District Office yesterday morning.
Other issues that were highlighted during the briefing included the current condition of the Labi road and the need for traffic management.
Petroleum Brunei was represented by its Chief Petroleum Engineer, Pg Haji Mohd Amiruddin bin Pg Haji Razali, while Chief Geophysicist Suni Haji Sulaiman spoke on behalf of TAP Energy.
The Assistant Belait District Officer, Awang Haji Abd Hamid bin Dato Paduka Haji Abdullah, was among those who attended the talk.
It was learnt that a workforce of around 1,200 foreign workers are involved in seismic and drilling works in Mukim Labi.
