Maybank officers and staff yesterday bled for a good cause.
The bank’s first blood donation drive was part of Maybank’s way of giving back to the community, especially after 50 years of serving in Brunei.
Edmund Sumping, Maybank Loan Management/Credit Admin Officer, said, “I am excited about this drive and we now hope to organise a blood donation drive every six months.”
Maybank will be celebrating its 50 years of service in Brunei this year and is making plans to celebrate its Golden Jubilee with a number of events, beginning with a Healthy Lifestyle Living Awareness workshop in April.
Maybank is also actively participating in community events. Last year, Maybank participated in the Pusat Ehsan Charity Bazaar to help raise funds for the cause. Maybank staff have also participated in the National Day parade, as well as the Maulud procession.
Officers and staff of Maybank donated 14 pints of blood yesterday.
The Blood Donation Centre has collected nearly 2,000 pints of blood this year and 11,000 pints of blood in 2009.
According to Hj Matusop Hj Daud, the Blood Bank Supervisor at the Blood Donation Centre, “We are very happy that the private as well as the government sector are very active in organising blood donation campaigns to assist the centre.
“There has been a very good response with people wanting to donate blood from both the private and government sectors, as well as the public.”
Uusage of blood at hospitals from across the country ranges from 40 to 50 pints of blood a day and the Blood Donation Centre welcomes parties interested to organise a blood donation drive to contact the centre at 224 2424 ext 7338.
Members of the public who are 18 years and older, healthy and fit and free from any illnesses can donate blood and are welcome to do so at the Blood Donation Centre in RIPAS Hospital or at any of the blood donation drives organised in the country.
