Mexico, March 18 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) – During a recent visit to the violence-torn Ciudad Juarez Mexican President Felipe Calderon denounced that violence in the border city originated in U.S territory.
Consumption in the U.S of drugs from Mexico and illegal arm trafficking are the causes making the northern capital of Chihuahua state one of the world’s most dangerous, he said.
Calderon, who attended two public events there suggested to Washington that “each party wins the battle in its territory and area of responsibility”.
He said he shares the suspicion and lack of confidence locals feel, due to violent events in the territory. People probably not linked to criminal activities have been killed, he added.
“The Mexican society is being damaged,” Calderon said. Locals and other Mexicans are concerned as well, he added.
Meanwhile the Mexican press reported discontent in Mexico over poor results in the fight against violence and criticism on the participation of US policemen in internal security issues.
Reports in the local press describe the situation in the northern Ciudad Juarez, bordering the United States as the main point of conflict.
The citizens of the city reacted with anger and refuted Secretary of National Public Safety Gerardo Garcia Luna’s claim that there was a decrease of violence, reported La Jornada daily.
Members of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) entered Mexico to investigate the murder of three people working the U.S consulate in Ciudad Juarez.
Deputies of the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD), the Labour Party (PT) and of the Convergence Party rejected the fact that FBI and other US public safety agencies are carrying out security action in Ciudad Juarez city.
Coordinator of the PT Pedro Vazquez considers pertinent the US collaboration in matters of intelligence to deal with the drug cartels, but rejects the possibility that US agencies carry out actions that fall within the responsibility of Mexican authorities.
According to the leader of the Convergence Party, Alejandro Gertz, “it is unacceptable that FBI and DEA agents enter the country to investigate the events that took place at the US consulate in Juarez since we enjoy an atmosphere of sovereignty and dignity that must be respected.” — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
