Sabah golfers shine in Brunei

Sabah, the next host of the tournament, proved their mettle when they captured the Borneo Ladies Golf Challenge Trophy 2010 team event with a total score of 271.
The four top golfers from Sabah who snatched the team title were Lydia Liew, Jeanette, Tamnakau, Eliza Leong and Chow Wee Her.

Second place went to the Brunei team of Hjh Azizah Hj Ahmad, Hjh Norhayati Masri, Pg Datin Hjh Umi Kalthum and Dk Rose Pg Hj Hitam with a score of 241.

Third place went to team Kalimantan with a score of 238. The team comprised Sumarni Armien, Kurniawati, Rina and Siti Juleha.

Brunei team captain, Dayang Sarinah Hj Masri, said: “I am happy that our team did well but is also a bit disappointed. The team practised hard but we still couldn’t win.”

“We were behind Sabah by 11 points on Tuesday. We thought that we could catch up but the Sabah team was too strong and they extended their lead on the final day of the competition.”

For the individual 36 holes category, Datin Adda Pang of Sabah took the honour with 64 points, Catherine Thasicius of Sabah took second place with 63 points and Shirley Poh of Labuan took third place with 61ocb.

For the individual first day category, the winner was Netty Chairul of Kalimantan with 33 points, followed by Annie Chong of Sarawak (32ocb) and Candy Sim also from Sarawak (32ocb).

In the individual second day category, Buhaseh Sakunir of Sabah took first place after hitting 43 points followed by. Vanessa Fitzgerald of Brunei (33ocb) and Joanne Ng Mei Ying (33ocb).

For the individual senior, Carlota Lo of Sabah took first place with 57ocb followed by Joan Chin of Brunei (67ocb) and Satin Chow Tian Eng of Sabah (52ocb).

For the junior category, first place went to Almas Syadzwanie with 63 points and two points behind was Siti Nora Yusrena.

For the novelties prizes on first day, Jakie Majalap won the longest drive prize, Susan Yee (nearest to hole No 3), Nurjannah Abdullah (nearest to hole No 8), Liew Mieng (nearest to hole No 13) and Alice Tay (nearest to hole No 16).

For the novelties prizes on second day, longest drive went to Hjh Norhayati Masri, Daisy Yeoh (nearest to hole No 3), Siti Salwa Hj Noor Ismadi (nearest to hole No 8), Vivian Ang (nearest to hole No 13) and Eveline Lim (nearest to hole No 16).

Bull Eye’s in hole No 13 went to Rebecca Bernard. In the Green Sum, the winner went to John/Annie/Viako and Pauline with 72 points, second place went to Pg Hassanal/Hjh Norhayati, Fabian with 73ocb and Stella took third place with 73ocb and Pg Dato Abidin/Eliza took fourth place with 77ocb.

The guest-of-honour who presented the prizes was Datin Hajah Masnah binti Hj Tuah, the spouse of the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports. Also present was Datin Hajah Rosnah Abdullah, the Chairlady of the Brunei Ladies Golf Association.
