TWO oil wells have been discovered in Brunei’s Block M.
The discovery was made through seismic surveys conducted in Labi by the Block M Consortium. Drilling works are scheduled to begin by June this year.
The second phase of the surveys will be carried out this April to determine the existence of other oil wells.
This was revealed by Pg Hj Mohd Amirrudin Pg Hj Razali, chief petroleum engineer of PetroleumBRUNEI, in a briefing to the Belait District Office yesterday in Kuala Belait.
Attending the briefing were Assistant District Officer Hj Abd Hamid Dato Paduka Hj Abdullah and officers from TAP Energy led by its chief geophysicist, Suni Hj Sulaiman.
Also in attendance during the meeting were village heads and community leaders as well as senior government officers.
In his presentation, Pg Hj Mohd Amirrudin said the Block M Consortium is committed to acquiring the remaining 3D seismic data and to drill two exploration wells.
Work, he noted, is scheduled to begin soon on the construction of a drilling site in Labi, after which a drilling rig will be moved onto the site to be followed by a drilling of Mawar-1 well in mid-June 2010.
Among the issues discussed during the briefing was the condition of Labi roads, traffic on the forestry roads, water supply, development planning regulations, the impact on the environment and on the Labi community.
PetroleumBRUNEI and TAP Energy said the meeting was conducted to establish cooperation with the relevant government departments in expediting paperwork so they can start working in the identified locations. “Without the proper authorisation, we cannot go on with our works.”
