RAMALLAH, March 19 (NNN-KUNA) — After a week of military clampdown on the Old City of Jerusalem and the prevention of Muslim worshipers under the age of 50 from entering Al-Aqsa Mosque, Israeli troops lifted their seige on Thursday.
Israeli authorities have opened the doors of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the street adjacent to the Jerusalem Wall, after it was closed for Palestinians for several days, Palestinian sources said.
The sources added that students whose schools were within the walls of Al-Aqsa Mosque were able to attend their classes Thursday.
However, Israeli troops remain deployed in streets of the Old City and at checkpoints.
Meanwhile, Israeli forces continued to raid Palestinian homes and arrested a number of youths for their participation in recent clashes in Jerusalem.
Over the past few days, Jerusalem witnessed fierce clashes after the opening of a synagogue just a few metres away from the Al-Aqsa Mosque, which led to casualties among Palestinians and dozens of detainees.
