CARACAS, March 19 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) – The ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) has released the final list of members to represent the party in the Sep 26 legislative elections.
The list includes the members who self-nominated themselves in the 87 electoral districts. They also went through an “impugnation and defense” process.
In the Sept 26 parliamentarian elections, 165 seats of the National Assembly will be at stake. Among them there will be 110 nominal, 52 by list and three indigenous seats.
PSUV leaders consider the process an example of transparency and participatory democracy.
Our process has nothing to do with the opposition process, where the fights among the members prevail, member of the National Leadership Freddy Bernal told Prensa Latina.
The party expects that at least two thirds of the deputies (110) assume the seats to guarantee the necessary support to strengthen the political, social and economic transformations that began in 1999.
The opposition seeks to prevent the PSUV from controlling Parliament in a bid to slow down the changes from the legislative house.
Polls by independent agencies give the PSUV a lead even six times larger than that of each opposition group. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
