The Brunei-Warwick (BruWick) student society initiated a Maulidur Rasul event on the University of Warwick grounds on March 10. Present at the ceremony were four Education officers from Brunei Student Unit (BSU): Religious Officer, Ustaz Haji Raminey bin Haji Salleh; Welfare Officer, Cikgu Sofian Erwan Mohammad; BSU Warden, Cikgu Haji Abdul Hisab bin Haji Zainal Abidin and recently appointed Academic Co-ordinator Cikgu Haji Abdul Khalid bin Haji Sulaiman.
The event began with a talk entitled ‘Characteristics and Traits of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)’ from Ustaz Haji Raminey. His delivery shed a different light on matters of patience and sincerity which all the attendees would agree has pinpointed at least one aspect of their lives in which they can better. Although conducted very simply, Ustaz Haji Raminey’s talk had embedded in all the minds of those present the importance of reflecting on one’s actions, guided by the attributes of our beloved Prophet.
The event continued as all attendees stood to recite the ‘Dzikir Marhaban’. As the singsong of praise of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) filled the room, everyone, though engaged in reciting the dzikir, together, shared remembrance of a little piece of home.
A prize presentation then followed for a Jawi Calligraphy competition, which was held during BruWick’s National Day celebration on February 23, 2010 with Academic Officer, Cikgu Haji Abdul Khalid bin Haji Sulaiman, presenting the prizes to the respective winners for both Muslim and non-Muslim categories.
With true Bruneian flair, our Maulidur Rasul celebration ended with a ‘makan-makan’ session complemented with informal discussion between students and attending BSU members.
The delightful occasion, celebrating the birth of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) lined with blessings and support not only from eager students but also all the way from Brunei Student Unit, will become an annual event passed on from the present committee to succeeding committees to come – intertwining Brunei’s national aspiration of becoming a Dzikir Nation, to our ‘home’ abroad.
