GAZA, March 21 (NNN-KUNA) — The Israeli Army arrested 10 Palestinians, while they were picking up gravel and abondoned building materials in northern Gaza on Saturday.
Israeli forces approached an area close to Beit Hanoun border crossing, and arrested 10 Palestinians, who were collecting gravel known as ‘mogharbeloon’ (gravel collectors), while others escaped, said Palestinian sources.
The sources added that the Palestinians were taken to an unknown place.
Hundreds of poor Palestinians have begun to collect gravel and other building materials such as steel bars and cement blocks in areas of abandoned settlements, to sell in Gaza, due to the unavailability of the materials in the besieged Palestinian territory since 2007.
These people are targeted by Israel on a virtually day-to-day basis, either by arrest or gunfire, with some killed or injured in the process.
A night before, 14 gravel collectors were wounded in an Israeli air raid east of Rafah border crossing in southern Gaza. — NNN- KUNA![]()
