KUALA LIPIS, Malaysia March 21 (NNN-Bernama) — The house that Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak was born in at Bukit Bius here will be turned into the ‘Muzium Warisan Sejarah Kuala Lipis’ (Kuala Lipis Historical Heritage Museum) soon.
The president of Lipis District Council (MDL) Abu Jamal Nordin said almost RM1 million was spent for conservation of the house from Nov 13, 2007 till May 12, 2008.
However, he said, an additional RM640,000 was needed for last stage works to outfit the museum and its opening is expected to draw tourists as well as make Kuala Lipis a tourist destination with a historical heritage theme.
Abu Jamal said this when giving a briefing on the former residence of the Pahang State Secretary to the prime minister here on Saturday.
Also present were Najib’s wife, Rosmah Mansor, and his mother, Rahah Mohd Noah.
Abu Jamal said a meeting on Sept 22, 2008 made decisions on what would be in the museum.
Among them were Lipis’ history; history of the house; British colonial history; Pahang Malay Sultanate history; well-known district politicians’ profiles; the district’s independence fighters; traditional Lipis food and the history of gold mining in the Lipis district.
The two-storey bungalow that was built in the 1920′s was the official residence of the late Abdul Razak Hussein when he was the Pahang State Secretary.
The building is one of 14 buildings that have been gazetted as Heritage Building by the MDL.–NNN-BERNAMA![]()
