PRAYERS were held yesterday for 12-year-old Noorazwani Hj Noorazlan who died in a fire on March 11 this year in a tahlil and doa arwah (prayers for the deceased) ceremony which also included a presentation of donations to six families from Kampung Lambak B whose houses had been affected by fire this year.

The ceremony took place at the residence of Noorazwani’s neighbour, who lives next door to the two-storey house in Kampung Lambak Kiri which caught fire earlier this month, causing the death of the 12-year-old.

Noorazwani had lived in the house with her uncle, Noorazman Hj Sulaiman, and other family members who were thankfully not harmed during the fire that gutted their two-storey home on March 11.

The event began with the recital of tahlil and doa arwah followed firstly with the presentation of donations totalling $7,000 by Managing Director of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (YSHHB) Dato Paduka Hj Ali Hashim Hj Daud to Noorazman.

YSHHB also donated the same amount to five other families whose houses were affected by fire in Kampung Lambak B, Mukim Berakas A.

Following this, the Department of Community Development (Japem) presented the next donation represented by its assistant director Mohd Hussaini Abdullah who handed over $11,200 to Noorazman to be used for repairs to the home and hired workers.

Japem also donated $5,200 to Bungsu Hj Abu Bakar, another fire victim who lost her house at Kampung Lambak B on February 26 this year. From the total, $5,000 was contributed for fire damages while the remaining $200 was for hired workers and repairs.

Other families who received donations from YSHHB were represented by their family members; Siti Zainon Hj Mohammad Jair, Ismail Hj Mohammad, Hj Noorazlan Hj Sulaiman, Noorinsan Hj Sulaiman and Mohammad Arif Matusop.

Dato Hj Ali Hashim, Mohd Hussaini and an entourage of Japem and YSHHB officers were then invited to inspect the damaged home of Noorazman, which was formerly his father’s home as well.

All of the families who received donations yesterday lived within a close radius of the fire that occurred on March 11 and therefore received an equal amount of $7,000 by YSHHB, with the exception of Hj Noorazlan Hj Sulaiman, the father of Noorazwani, who received an additional $1,000 for the loss of his daughter.
