THE Minister of Primary Industry and Resources, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Utama Dato Seri Setia Hj Yahya Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Hj Bakar left for Thailand yesterday for a five-day working visit.
According to a press release from the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood, the visit is a follow-up of the bilateral discussions on food safety between His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, with Prime Minister of Thailand, Abhisit Vejjajiva, during the Asean Summit held in Thailand in November last year.
The visit also hopes to establish bilateral cooperation between Brunei and Thailand in the field of agriculture and agrifood.
The delegation is expected to visit commercial scale padi fields, padi processing plants, chicken processing plants, marketing organisations for farmers, community rice centres, research centres and farm fruits, Agriculture Cooperatives and the Royal Chitradala Project.
Pehin Dato Hj Yahya minister is also expected to hold discussions with Thai’s Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives to discuss food security, capacity building and trade opportunities in the agriculture and agrifood sector.
Included in the delegation are Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources, Hjh Suriyah Hj Umar and Director of Agriculture and Agrifoods Hjh Normah Suria Hayati PJDSMDU Dr Hj Mohd Jamil Al-Sufri.
