The Minister of Industry and Primary Resources, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Utama Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Yahya bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, left for Thailand yesterday on a working visit.
Permanent Secretary at the MIPR, Hjh Suriyah Hj Umar; Director of Agriculture and Agrifood, Hjh Normah Suriyah Hayati PJDSMDSU (Dr) Awg Hj Mohd Jamil Al-Sufri; and senior officers from the MIPR and the Department of Agrifood and Agriculture are also accompanying the minister on the working visit.
The five-day working visit is in response to bilateral talks on food security between His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, during the Asean Summit in November 2009. The visit hopes to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries in areas of agrifood and agriculture.
Sites to be visited include commercial-scale paddy farms, paddy processing centres, farmers’ marketing organisations, research centres, rice community centres and the Royal Chitradala Project.
The minister will also be involved in bilateral meetings with the Minister of Agriculture and Cooperation of Thailand to discuss matters of food security, capacity building as well as business opportunities in the agriculture and agrifood sector.
