ARAB LEADERS ADOPT STRATEGY TO SAVE JERUSALEM

SIRT, Libya, March 29 (NNN-KUNA) — Arab leaders have adopted a joint Arab plan for saving Jerusalem with planned action at the political, legal and financial levels.

The leaders, in their “Sirt Declaration”, affirmed support for Jerusalem with a USD 500 million fund to confront the Israeli settlement schemes in Jerusalem and address the International Court of Justice to face the Israeli crimes in the city.

The resolution includes a plan to save the city, ask international organisations to refrain from recognising any of the Israeli illegitimate acts targeting the territories, the Islamic and Christian sanctities in Palestine.

The leaders also adopted resolutions related to the peace process, the Arab-Israeli conflict, namely the Arab peace initiative, the occupied Syrian Golan, solidarity with Lebanon, conditions in Iraq, Iran’s occupation of the UAE islands, Greater and Lesser Tonbs and Abou Moussa.

They also dealt with the US curbs on Syria and Sudan, supporting the peace and development process in Sudan, Somalia, the Comoros, nuclear proliferation in the Middle East and combating terrorism.

At the economic level, the leaders affirmed the necessity of implementing resolutions of the Arab economic summit, hosted by Kuwait last year.

Rearding the Arab power and road projects, they underscored necessity of coordination at these levels.

On the Palestinian cause, they called for establishing a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East, emphasizing that the peace process cannot be separated. They also stressed that a just and viable peace in the Middle East could only be realiaed with Israel’s full withdrawal from the occupied Palestinian and Arab territories and settling the refugee question according to relevant UN resolutons.

They expressed solidarity with the Palestinian people who have been resisting the continuous Israeli aggression on their territories and sacred shrines, condemned these attacks and Tel Aviv’s settlement schemes.

The Arab leaders expressed their solidarity towards the people of Jerusalem and the Palestinians, adding that the Arab strategy for Jerusalem would aim at protecting the scared places of worship in the Holy City.

The leaders affirmed that they supported the notion of creating a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The Arab leaders called for an international conference to support and defend the city of Jerusalem.

They also said that it was important for Palestinians to set their differences aside and defend their country against the Israeli tyranny.

The Arab leaders condemned the continuous Israeli aggression against Arab territories, namely the air strike on the Syrian military site in Deir Al-Zor, saying this attack was a violation of Syrian sovereignty.

Meanwhile, the Arab leaders lauded the elections which were recently held in Iraq and called on the Iraqis to unite under one banner for the sake of their country.

The Arab leaders also called on Iran to withdraw from the occupied UAE Islands, saying that the issue should be peacefully resolved.

The Arab leaders said that they supported Libya’s actions to protect its civilians in Europe and the EU states, saying that it was legal for Libya to protect its people abroad.

Meanwhile, the leaders called for a permanent seat at the UN Security Council due to the prominence of such UN institution on the regional and international scene.

The leaders called for an international conference to define terrorism and means to battle such menace.

They also touched on the subject of social and economic development, saying it was about time that Arabs look into such matters.

Arab states should consolidate cooperation amongst them and look into the future with serious strategies to develop the Arab individual, said the leaders, calling for the utilisation of all means for development including the peaceful usage of nuclear energy.
