The Fire and Rescue Department and the police are investigating the cause of a fire that ravaged a house’s bedroom at Kg Bolkiah ‘A’ in Kampong Ayer yesterday morning.
Fortunately, a woman, Hjh Aliah bte Hj Besar, 75, who was relocated to the house next door, escaped unhurt during the incident.
Another occupant, a 17-year-old student from Semaun Secondary School, Awg Jamaluddin bin Ali, was puzzled by the incident after arriving at the scene. Three people stayed at the house.
The Public Relations Department said the Fire and Rescue Department received a distress call at 8.12am and 20 Marine and Sungai Kebun fire personnel reached the scene eight minutes later. Three boats from the Marine Fire Station and two fire engines from Sg Kebun Fire Station were dispatched.
The fire was extinguished in five minutes during the operation led by Deputy Station Officer, Japar bin Hj Jaya from Marine Fire Station.
The total loss caused by the fire was estimated to be $2,000. Fishing nets were also damaged by the fire.
Also seen at the scene were police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) personnel. The house was cordoned off.
Kg Bolkiah ‘A’ is a residential area for Kampong Ayer residents whose houses were ravaged in a fire which affected several villages 15 to 20 years ago.
