SEOUL, March 31 (NNN-Bernama) — Tickets for the 2010 Formula One World Championship Race slated for this fall in South Korea went on sale Wednesday, the event’s organisers, cited by Yonhap news agency.
The Formula One race, dubbed the Korean Grand Prix, will take place Oct 22 to Oct 24 in the southwestern county of Yeongam, about 400 kilometers south of Seoul.
The event, first of its kind to be hosted by South Korea, is expected to attract about 200,000 visitors, the Korea Auto Valley Operation (KAVO) said.
The average price for the 120,000 tickets available to ordinary spectators at the Korea International Circuit is 460,000 won (US$406).
The most expensive seat at the main grandstand, which gives clear view of the start and finish line, costs 920,000 won (US$812), said KAVO.
“We set the ticket price in line with the prices of the World Cup finals, Olympic Games and other F1 GP races held in other Asian countries,” Yonhap quoted KAVO as saying at a press release.
“We’ve come up with lower prices as South Korea has secured the rights to host the event for seven years.”
F1, which attracts millions of television viewers worldwide, is shifting its focus to Asia from Europe.
Spanish Fernando Alonso of Ferrari won the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix, and the second GP title went to British Jenson Button driving for Mercedes, the 2009 champion.
Seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher who retired in 2006 made a comeback to the track this year and ranked 6th in Bahrain.
The 2010 Malaysian Grand Prix will be the third round in the 2010 Formula One season, and will be held in Sepang on April 4.
