LA PAZ, April 6 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) – Bolivia has welcomed Peru’s refusal to grant political asylum to former government minister Guillermo Fortun (2000-2001) wanted by the Bolivian Justice Ministry.
According to Deputy Minister of Government Coordination Wilfredo Chavez, the Peruvian administration acted “very properly” to contribute to the investigation on the illegal use of state resources by Fortun.
Peru exercised a faculty that it should have exercised in other cases but in this particular case it is good for the sake of relations between both countries, said Chavez.
In his opinion, Fortun’s request fails to fit legal regulations as he is not a politically persecuted person but someone who refused to comply with judicial regulations. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
