FILIPINOS in Brunei can start voting in the Philippine national elections, which will take place between April 10 and May 10, the Philippine Embassy announced yesterday.
The overseas absentee voting (OAV) in Brunei will be held from 8am to 4pm during the 30-day period, which will also include Saturdays, Sundays and May 1 — a Philippine national holiday, the embassy said.
Voting closes at 6pm on May 10, but voters within 30 metres of polling stations can still cast their votes, the Philippine Embassy said.
There are 13,339 registered overseas absentee voters in Brunei. To cast their votes, they can look for their names in the certified list of absentee voters or the OAV Form 2A available at the Philippine Embassy, said Consul General Raymond Balatbat.
Absentee voters can only vote for a president, vice president, senator and party list to be written on the OAV ballet measuring 14 by 4.5 inches. The Philippine Commission on Elections (Comelec) and the Department of Foreign Affairs will coordinate the overseas absentee voting (OVA).
The first automated OVA will be held in Hong Kong and Singapore, which recorded the highest registration of absentee voters at 95,355 and 31,853 respectively, according to the Comelec. “The combined voters in Hong Kong and Singapore are equal to 21 per cent of the total overseas voters,” the Comelec said.
