‘SMS Brunei Prihatin’ to help Haiti, Chile

The launching of the SMS Brunei Prihatin for Haiti and Chile Earthquake Humanitarian Fund was held at the Dewan Di Gadong, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports yesterday.
The SMS Prihatin, which is to provide a channel for the public to make donations to the fund which was set up on March 25, 2010, was launched by Minister of Culture Youth and Sports Pehin Orang Kaya Setia Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Dr Awg Hj Ahmad bin Hj Jumat, and Acting Minister of Religious Affairs, Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Awg Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Hj Othman, as joint advisors of the Haiti and Chile Earthquake Humanitarian Fund.

Also attending the event were Dato Paduka Hj Jumat bin Ampal, Permanent Secretary Ministry Culture, Youth and Sports and Awang Haji Mahdi bin Pehin Orang Kaya DiGadong Seri Diraja Dato Laila Utama Hj Awg Abr Rahman, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, as Joint Chairman of the National Committee of the Haiti and Chile Humanitarian Fund.

The SMS Brunei Prihatin project is jointly organized by the Department of Community Development [JAPEM], Radio Television Brunei, DST Group and B-Mobile Communication Sdn. Bhd.

The event began with the launching of the SMS Brunei Prihatin 2009 followed by a mass donation from those attending the event. Prior to that was a presentation of video clip on the Haiti and Chile earthquakes.

The SMS Brunei Prihatin started from yesterday, April 8 until May 22, 2010. For those wishing to donate, they can simply type BANTU [without space] and the sum of money such as 1.5.10.15 or 20 examples BANTU20 [for $20.00] and send it to 38111 for DST customer and also B-Mobile or via WAP portal.

JAPEM, as the Secretariat of the Humanitarian Fund, invites the public to donate through this provided service and hopes the entire donation can alleviate the burden of the stricken Haitians and Chileans.
