CARACAS, April 9 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) – Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez assured that Venezuela and Spain are still friends despite attempts by some sectors to cause friction between the countries.

Chavez speaking in Puerto Cabello said ties will continue solid despite the discredit campaign and attempts by some people to create barriers between the two countries.

The president thanked Spain for accomplishing the building contract of the patrol boat “Guaicamacuto”.

Chavez said that the U.S government tried to prevent Venezuela from acquiring defensive arms like the “Guaicamacuto” that will protect Venezuela’s vast natural resources.

Spain Socialist leaders, officials and deputies denounced that some Spainish right-wing sectors and the People’s Party had tried to provoke friction between Caracas and Madrid in the last few weeks, Chavez said. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
