Thirty teachers from various secondary schools yesterday were invited to watch a shooting exercise at the Berakas Shooting Range in the Berakas camp.
The exercise was organised by a cadet teacher, Cikgu Suzyreen from Awang Semaun Secondary School, as well as personnel from the Ministry of Defence (MinDef).
The invited schools were Awang Semaun Secondary School, Umar Al-Khattab Secondary School and Sayyidina Ali Secondary School.
The teachers were briefed by Major Idris who emphasised on the importance of recruiting army cadets. He said teachers should motivate students who want to join the cadet as it can teach them the values of discipline, as well as involving them with positive activities, which could prove valuable in the future.
Underlining the importance of the issues of safety and security, Major Idris said joining the army is a noble vocation and invited teachers to join the cadet ranks as well. Teachers then watched a shooting demonstration executed by the army personnel. Also present during the demonstrations were student cadets from Sayyidina Hussein Secondary School and Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien College.
