COCHABAMBA, BOLIVIA, April 15 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) – Bolivian President Evo Morales confirmed that presidents of Nicaragua and Venezuela, Daniel Ortega and Hugo Chavez will attend the First World People’s Conference on Climate Change next month.
Morales told the media that they will join Latin presidents of Ecuador and Paraguay, Rafael Correa and Fernando Lugo participating in the conference from April 20-22 in Tiquipaya, 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) from here. He also announced that vice presidents of several Latin American countries will also attend.
He said this after visiting the buildings that have been prepared to welcome almost 1,000 foreign delegates representing five continents.
The Bolivian president also assessed as very positive the preparations for the conference where delegates will debate on 17 “working tables” the same number of subjects in defense of Mother Earth’s rights.
He recalled that Bolivia’s proposal to that forum was agreed in a previous meeting by social organisations and the indigenous people.
Other issues to be discussed are the holding of a world referendum on how to face the negative impact of development on the environment and the creation of an International Court of Climatic Justice, where the governments and companies that act against life on earth are tried, he said.
Morales convened the World People’s Conference after the UN Summit held in Copenhagen in Dec last yearfailed.
The summit’s closing agenda will include celebrating Mother Earth’s Day at the Felix Capriles stadium in Cochabamba on April 22, another of Morales’ initiatives supported by the 192 UN member nations.
The conclusions of the forum will be presented at a people’s rally here and sent later to the UN meeting on climate change in Dec in Cancun, Mexico. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
