A FAMILY of six who lost their home in a fire last month received a donation of $1,200 from the Islamic Religious Council (Muib) yesterday. The donation was provided through the council’s dzakat (tithe) funds.
The family’s house in Kg Serambangun, Tutong, was razed by fire on March 30. The cause of the fire is believed to be faulty electrical wiring.
The donation was received by the head of the family, Zainuddin Hj Minor Absah, during a handover ceremony at the Tutong Religious Affairs Office. Present to hand over the donation was Muib Acting Secretary Hj Abdul Wahab Hj Sapar.
Only in his early 40s, Zainuddin was given the aid because he had been unlucky in securing employment, currently taking any odd jobs he can find, and he is the sole provider for his family.
Only the oldest of his four children has started schooling, while the other three are still being taken care of at home by Zainuddin and his wife.
According to a press statement released by the council, it was hoped that the money donated yesterday would help ease the burden and give support to the family at this difficult time.
The family is currently living in the Tutong District Office guesthouse on Jln Pg Othman usually reserved for visiting officials.
Plans of where the family will permanently reside have yet to be confirmed.
