PARTIES involved in the monitoring and control of entertainment should take proactive steps to curb over-the-top entertainment, especially those popular these days, said the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs yesterday at a lecture on interpretation of the Al-Quran.

Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Badaruddin Pengarah Dato Paduka Hj Othman urged the public to be aware of the negative effects that entertainment found in films, musicals and singing performances could have on Brunei’s youth.

Pehin Dato Ustaz Hj Badaruddin said that such entertainment could prove a distraction and cause the youth to neglect their studies and for the people to forget or delay their prayers. He added that anyone who invited a person to participate in over-the-top display of entertainment was deviating from Islamic ways. The lecture, which was organised by the Sultan Hj Hassanl Bolkiah Tahfiz Al-Quran Institute, was attended by officers and staff of Ministry of Communications and Jame’Asr Women’s Committee. The Brunei Times
