CUSCO, April 19 (NNN-ANDINA) – A total of 19,768 tourists visited the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu since its reopening on April 1, reported the National Institute of Culture (INC) here.
According to INC statistics, 18,178 tourists (15,950 foreigners and 2,228 Peruvians) visited Machu Picchu between April 1 and 14, while there were 1,590 visitors on April 15.
Every day nearly 1,500 tourists visit Peru’s No. 1 tourist site which reopened after a two-month closure due the floods that washed out the rail link to the mountaintop ruins.
INC also reported that 1,992 tourists, all of them foreigners, hiked the ancient Inca Trail in the first half of April.
Meanwhile, a Peruvian hotel group Inkaterra plans to open two luxury eco-lodges in Peru next year as part of its expansion plan, Inkaterra president Jose Koechlin said.
“These lodges will be part of our new brand the Group, which is focused on accommodating a large number of luxury tourists,” he said.
Koechlin pointed out that the first lodge will be located in Puerto Maldonado in Madre de Dios region where visitors will be able to enjoy nature’s beauty and diversity.
“The other project will be located in Cabo Blanco, province of Talara (Piura), where we have recently bought land from the National Superintendence of State Properties,” he added.
Inkaterra invested US$ 109,945.89 in the purchase of this 383,766 square meter area located near Cabo Blanco Cove. — (NNN-ANDINA)
