PERU’S EXPORT GROWTH EXPECTED BETWEEN 15-20 PERCENT

NAM NEWS NETWORK Apr 19th, 2010 .

LIMA, April 19 (NNN-ANDINA) – Peruvian exports will grow between 15 and 20 percent in the next five years starting from next year, Peru’s Export and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) said.

Promperu’s Export Director Juan Carlos Mathews forecast exports to grow between 15 and 16 percent this year from last year’s figure.

“However, if this year there are measures to facilitate exports and promote investment in ports and logistics infrastructure we may register an additional growth of two or three percentage points starting from next year,” he said.

Mathews explained that once Peru reaches a 15-20% increase the idea is to maintain it during the following five years.

The Promperu official said that the goal is to raise non-traditional exports at levels registered seven years ago because at present they account for 23 percent of the total while traditional exports reached 77 percent.

Meanwhile PromPeru announced that TravelMart LatinAmerica which will take place on Sept 22-24, will be an excellent platform to launch “Peru Brand,” which will promote not only tourism, but also investments and foreign trade.

Last week Peru’s Foreign Trade Minister Martin Perez said that probably in June he may launch “Peru Brand,” which will consist of a logo and a slogan.

“Although we do not have a specific date to launch it we want to use this event to communicate “Peru Brand” to the world and how we are positioning,” the Director of Tourism Promotion of PromPeru, Jacqueline Saettone said.

She said that the work to achieve a nation brand is achieving progress in a first part which implies collecting information to create the concept.

“That work is finished and it was tested nationally and internationally, having up to now three options for the logo although there is still much more to do,” she added. — NNN-ANDINA
