Workshop to enhance religious teaching quality

Mastoris Apr 20th, 2010 .

Based on visits, reports and observations made by officers from the Islamic Studies Department (JPI), it was found that some teachers were not effective in their teaching skills.
In an effort to double their teaching quality, the religious teachers of JPI will be hosting a workshop that is targeted at teachers of lower primary from pre, I, II and III at all religious schools nationwide.

The workshop will be implemented through five phases – phase one, April 26-29; phase two, May 3-6; phase three, May 10-13; phase four, May 17-20; and phase five, May 24-27.

Five hundred and seventy-three lower-primary Ugama teachers from all four districts will undergo this workshop four times a week – every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday – according to the arranged phases.

The venues for each of the four districts are as follows – Sekolah Ugama Pengiran Hafizah Sururul Bolkiah, Berakas, Brunei-Muara; Sekolah Ugama Pengiran Anak Puteri Norain, Tutong; Sekolah Ugama Sungai Taring, Lumut, Belait; Sekolah Ugama Pengiran Muda Mohamed Bolkiah, Temburong. For every group, there will be 15-20 teachers guided by one facilitator.

A launching ceremony for Lower-Primary Level Teaching and Learning Technique Workshop was held yesterday morning at Dewan Besar of Sekolah Menengah Arab Laki-Laki Hassanal Bolkiah, Jalan Tutong.

The guest of honour who launched the workshop was the Director of Islamic Studies, Ustaz Haji Ismail bin Haji Abd Manap.

With this workshop, the Islamic Studies Department hopes that the teachers involved will be able to practise and apply what they learn in order to produce students that can read, write and spell in Jawi with perfection.
