In commemorating Earth Day, the Beach Bunch yesterday rolled up their sleeves and took on the task of sprucing up Jerudong Beach.
Held for the sixth time, the cleaning campaign was part of the group’s ongoing mission to protect our beaches from pollution.
Forty years after the first Earth Day, the world is in greater peril than ever. While climate change is the greatest challenge of our time, it also presents the greatest opportunity – an unprecedented opportunity – to build a healthy, prosperous, clean energy economy now and for the future.
Earth Day 2010 provided a pivotal opportunity for individuals, corporations and governments to band together and create a green global economy.
As a registered association under the Brunei Registrar of Societies (ROS), the Beach Bunch’s objectives are to organise and conduct regular cleaning campaigns at Brunei beaches and other forms of waterways, organise awareness programmes on waste management at beaches, assist wherever possible other associations, clubs, corporations and government agencies in promoting beach cleaning campaigns, and to promote reduction of waste generation, particularly plastic bottles and bags.
The simple motto ‘Keeping Brunei’s Beaches Clean and Enjoyable’ exemplifies the mission and objectives of the association.
The cleaning campaign was one of many which provided a channel for all companies and individuals to come together as a community to show that we care about our beaches and hence our environment.
