As part of efforts to assist the underprivileged and those who require a roof over their heads, the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, through relevant agencies such as the Islamic Religious Council, Brunei-Muara District Office and the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, continuously strives to provide assistance to this cause by constructing, completing and repairing the houses of the needy.
Such an assistance was rendered to Dyg Bintang Sabtu yesterday who can now live in comfort with her husband and four children. Her new home was handed over during a ceremony conducted in front of her new residence.

The construction costs for the house was $29,000, of which $15,000 was donated by the Islamic Religious Council, $5,000 each from the Community Development Department and Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah and the remaining $4,000 by the Charity Fund of the Brunei-Muara District Office while the cost of installing electric and water metres amounting to $3,045 was fully funded by the Charity Fund of the Brunei- Muara District Office.

The handing over ceremony was officiated by the Brunei-Muara District Officer, Dato Paduka Awg Hj Md Yusof Bakar, Acting Secretary of Islamic Religious Council Awg Hj Abd Wahab Hj Sapar, Managing Director of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Dato Paduka Awg Hj Ali Hashim Hj Md Daud and Acting Director of Community Development Dyg Hjh Misnah Hj Bolhassan.

The implementation of the housing construction projects are part of the initiatives and cohesive efforts of the Brunei-Muara District Office along with other government agencies particularly the Islamic Religious Council, Department of Community Development, and Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah in providing information, identifying and providing financial assistance to the needy.

The recipient of the new house makes ends meet only through Islamic Religious Council funds, while her husband provides car painting tips to support their four children who are still in school.

Previously, Dyg Bintang and her family lived on the ground floor of her former house as the upper level was in a bad state and infected with termites.

Their new home will provide a better life for them.
