A FIRE broke out in a rubbish chute of a residential building, Asibah Flat in the capital yesterday afternoon, during the Friday prayers.
On arrival at the scene, The Brunei Times team found that the Fire and Rescue personnel had already extinguished the fire.
Head of the operation, Asst Supt Sufriyan Hj Abd Hamid said that the Fire and Rescue Department received a call to the emergency hotline 995 at 12.36pm.
Fire trucks were immediately dispatched from the Bandar Seri Begawan and Beribi fire stations and arrived at the scene at 12.41pm.
No one was injured in the fire and none of the flats were affected.
A Fire Investigation Officer on the scene said that the fire was likely to have been caused when someone threw a burning object, most likely a cigarette butt, into the rubbish chute.
Police was also at the scene to help in the investigation. When The Brunei Times left the scene, the Fire and Rescue personnel were hosing down the rubbish chute to cool down the concrete and steel in the building. The Brunei Times
